Information for holidaying during Schoolies in the Whitsundays
The Whitsundays is one of the most exciting and beautiful places to holiday with your friends after all those years at school. Generally school leavers enjoy heading out to the reef, relaxing by the lagoon, participating in 'schoolies only' night entertainment and plenty of discounted trips during the day.
The one thing you must remember when enjoying your time holidaying in the Whitsundays, is to take responsibility for your actions. This goes with the territory of being an adult.
Here are some of our HOT tips on how to celebrate and have a really great holiday:
- Check out the house rules where you're staying - if something goes wrong, or there are other issues, talk to your apartment manager straight away.
- Underage drinking or possession of liquor in a public place could land you with an on the spot fine of up to $225.
- Possession of a fake ID could get you an on the spot fine of up to $375.
- Unwanted or forced sexual behavior is a crime.
- If you are sexually active, practice safe sex.
- Police are there to help you - remain calm, listen and follow instructions.
- Look out for the Schoolies Volunteers - they will provide support and advice.
- Respect that other people live and work in Airlie or are visiting the area.
- Bring your medication if you have asthma, diabetes, epilepsy or another condition.
- For your chance to participate in schoolies events, receive discounts and win prizes, you need to register when you arrive and you must bring your school photo ID or any other official documents that identify you as a 2007 Year 12 student.
- Be sun smart and drink plenty of water.
